The National Science Foundation (NSF) has released a program solicitation in Geobiology and Low-Temperature Geochemistry.

The program will support research in a number of topics relevant to astrobiology, including the interactions between biological and geological systems, geomicrobiology, biomineralization processes and the development of tools, methods and models for conducting low-temperature geochemistry and geobiology research.

Studying the interactions between biology and geology throughout Earth’s history is essential in determining what makes our planet Habitable. This information can also help astrobiologists determine if other locations in our solar system, such as Mars, could have once supported life as we know it.Full proposals are due on July 16, 2009.
